Myopia Management: A Proactive Approach to Your Child’s Vision

When Your Child Keeps Needing Stronger Glasses

Watching your child’s prescription increase can leave you wondering what comes next. At Liberty Eyecare, our myopia management services offer options beyond updating their glasses. Through personalized treatment and ongoing monitoring, we help families take an active role in managing childhood nearsightedness.

What Is Myopia Management?

Myopia, or nearsightedness, makes distant objects appear blurry. It commonly develops when the eye grows too long and may progress throughout childhood and adolescence.

Standard glasses help your child see clearly, but they do not typically slow myopia progression. Myopia management uses specialized treatments designed to slow that progression while supporting your child’s vision needs.

Higher levels of myopia are associated with a greater risk of certain eye conditions later in life, including retinal detachment and glaucoma. Our goal is to limit progression and support long-term eye health. Treatment cannot reverse existing myopia or guarantee that progression will stop.

What to Expect

Your child’s care begins with a thorough evaluation of their vision, prescription, and eye health. We also consider their age, family history, previous prescription changes, and daily habits.

We explain our findings and walk you through the benefits, responsibilities, and considerations of each appropriate treatment. Our options include specialized glasses such as Stellest lenses, MiSight daytime contact lenses, overnight orthokeratology lenses, and prescription atropine eye drops.

Regular follow-up visits help us monitor your child’s response and adjust their care when needed. We also provide guidance on lens care, consistent treatment use, and healthy visual habits.

Is Myopia Management Right for Your Child?

A dedicated dry eye evaluation is the first step. We assess your tear film, eyelid glands, and eye health to determine whether retaining more moisture could help relieve your symptoms.
If inflammation or eyelid gland dysfunction is contributing to your dry eye, your doctor may recommend treating those concerns before or alongside punctal plug placement.
