Burning, grittiness, watering, and fluctuating vision may be signs that your tears aren’t providing the protection your eyes need. At Liberty Eyecare’s dry eye clinic, we offer TearCare as part of a personalized approach to managing dry eye caused by poorly functioning eyelid oil glands.
TearCare is an in-office treatment that combines controlled heat with the careful clearing of blocked meibomian glands. These small glands in your eyelids produce the protective oil layer of your tears. When their openings become blocked or their oils become thickened, tears can evaporate too quickly, leaving your eyes irritated and uncomfortable.
TearCare warms the eyelids to soften these oils. Your doctor then gently expresses the glands to help clear blockages and improve oil flow, supporting a healthier, more stable tear film.
Small, flexible warming devices are placed on your upper and lower eyelids. They allow you to keep your eyes open and blink naturally throughout the warming portion of treatment, which typically lasts about 15 minutes.
Afterward, your doctor carefully clears the softened oils from the glands. You may feel warmth during treatment and some pressure during gland expression.
Your doctor will recommend follow-up care and a home routine tailored to your needs. Results vary, and repeat treatments may be recommended to help manage this ongoing condition.
A dedicated dry eye evaluation is the first step. We assess your tear film, eyelid glands, and eye health to determine whether blocked glands are contributing to your symptoms and whether TearCare is appropriate for you. It may be combined with other treatments to support more comfortable eyes.
You don’t have to settle for ongoing discomfort. Schedule a dry eye evaluation at Liberty Eyecare’s dry eye clinic in West Chester to learn whether TearCare could be part of your treatment plan.
