What Is OptiLight IPL?

OptiLight uses intense pulsed light (IPL) applied to the skin below the eyes to help manage dry eye associated with meibomian gland dysfunction, or MGD. These small glands in your eyelids produce the protective oil layer of your tears. When they aren’t working properly, tears can evaporate too quickly, leaving your eyes irritated and uncomfortable.

OptiLight targets inflammation that contributes to MGD, helping address an underlying factor in dry eye rather than providing temporary lubrication alone.
 

What to Expect

Treatment typically includes four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. During each session, your eyes are protected with shields, and a thin layer of gel is applied to the treatment area. You may feel warmth or a brief snapping sensation as pulses of light are delivered. Most patients can resume their usual daily activities afterward.

Your doctor will recommend a treatment schedule and home care tailored to your needs. Results vary, and maintenance treatments may be recommended to help manage this ongoing condition.
