Burning, grittiness, watering, and fluctuating vision can interfere with your daily comfort. At Liberty Eyecare’s dry eye clinic, we offer low level light therapy as part of a personalized approach to managing dry eye and supporting a healthier tear film.
Low level light therapy, or LLLT, is a noninvasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of LED light delivered through a specialized treatment mask. Also called photobiomodulation, this therapy is designed to support cellular activity in the treated tissues and may help improve dry eye symptoms and tear film stability.
LLLT may be recommended for patients with meibomian gland dysfunction, or MGD. These small glands in your eyelids produce the protective oil layer of your tears. When they aren’t working properly, tears can evaporate too quickly, leaving your eyes irritated and uncomfortable.
During treatment, you’ll relax while a specialized LED mask delivers light to the eyelid area. Sessions generally last about 15 minutes, depending on the device and treatment protocol. Our team will guide you through the procedure and explain what to expect.
Your doctor will recommend the number and spacing of treatments based on your needs. LLLT may be used alongside other dry eye treatments, including IPL or gland expression.
Results vary, and ongoing home care or additional treatments may be recommended to help manage this chronic condition.
A dedicated dry eye evaluation is the first step. We assess your tear film, eyelid glands, and eye health, then review your medical history and medications to determine whether LLLT is appropriate for you. Our goal is to recommend care that addresses the factors contributing to your discomfort.
You don’t have to settle for ongoing discomfort. Schedule a dry eye evaluation at Liberty Eyecare’s dry eye clinic in West Chester to learn whether low level light therapy could be part of your treatment plan.
